ABOUT

Following the death of his deadbeat father, a son discovers that there was more to him than anyone in the family suspected.

Kiji is bewildered by sudden phone call from his brother telling him that he has located their father.  You see, it has been thirteen years since their dad stepped out of the house never to return.  Moreover, Koji is stunned to hear that their father has cancer and been given three months to live.

Life for Koji and his family became a difficult one after being deserted by their father.  A heavy gambler, he saddled the family with debt, forcing Koji’s mother to work impossible hours.  While his mother and brother felt only hatred for their father, Koji harbored a degree of sympathy and clung to the memory of their shared love of baseball.

When the inevitable day of their father’s funeral arrives, Koji and his brother must confront both the thirteen-year blank created by his absence as well as collection of odd acquaintances who have come to pay their last respects.

ABOUT

From the production team behind the Oscar winning Searching for Sugar Man comes We Are X, a transcendent rock & roll story about X Japan, the world’s biggest and most successful band you’ve never heard of...yet.

Under the enigmatic direction of drummer, pianist, composer, and producer Yoshiki, X Japan has sold over 30 million singles and albums combined––captivating such a wide range of admirers as Sir George Martin, KISS, Stan Lee, and even the Japanese Emperor––and pioneered a spectacle-driven style of visual rock, creating a one-of-a-kind cultural phenomenon.

Chronicling the band’s exhilarating, tumultuous and unimaginable history over the past three decades––persevering through personal, physical and spiritual heartache––the film culminates with preparations for their breathtaking reunion concert at New York’s legendary Madison Square Garden. Directed by acclaimed documentarian Stephen Kijak (Stones in Exile, Scott Walker: 30 Century Man), We Are X is an astonishingly intimate portrait of a deeply haunted––but truly unstoppable––virtuoso and the music that has enthralled legions of the world’s most devoted fans. http://www.wearexfilm.com/

We Are X was produced by John Battsek of Passion Pictures, producer of two Academy Award winning documentaries (Searching For Sugar Man, One Day in September). The film was directed by Stephen Kijak (Stones In Exile, Scott Walker: 30th Century Man).

Talk show and Q&A with director Keiko Yagi  八木景子監督 舞台挨拶&トーク

ABOUT

In 2010, THE COVE, a documentary about dolphin hunting in Taiji, Japan, won an Academy Award. The movie certainly brought attention to the whaling issue as a whole. But was the documentary entirely truthful? Did it portray both sides of the story correctly? Or was it a well-crafted story using sensationalized techniques - including hidden cameras - to tell a one-sided portrayal of the problem? More importantly, why has there not been a film from Japan responding to THE COVE? Well, now there is. Negative media coverage on Japan about the never-ending whaling issue prompted first-time documentary filmmaker Keiko Yagi to find out more about the topic. With no budget, limited experience in filmmaking, no fluency in English, but armed with a video camera and a strong desire to find out about the truth of the matter on whaling, Yagi started her research. What started out as a personal investigation triggered by childhood memories of whale meat dishes inevitably led her to the town of Taiji, the center of the whaling debate and the stage of THE COVE. What she found through her experiences there and elsewhere was a much bigger story than she had initially imagined. “Behind THE COVE” is director Keiko Yagi’s attempt to present a comprehensive picture of the dolphin and whale hunting issues in Japan, which includes interviews of people on both sides of the whaling dispute, its sinister political side, what THE COVE could not offer, and a unique take on the topic.

ABOUT

The Genkai Sea in East Japan glistening under the blue sky. You can see the horizon line in the background from a small island located in the East Japan: Ito-shima. Aya (36) and Yui (6) ride the train that runs along the rice fields. Aya and her fiancé lived together in Tokyo, Yui is her fiancé's child. Aya dreamed of becoming a designer, but she had to give up because her fiancé abused her. She moved back to Ito-shima along with Yu. Her confused parents do not know whether to welcome Yu or not when Aya comes back home covered in scars. Ito-shima has changed while Aya lived in Tokyo, new neighbors have moved in and the tight-knit community no longer existed. To form a closer community with new people, Nakajima proposes an idea:  The Taketorou Festival, where bamboo trees are cut and lights are placed inside. However, many opposed the idea. Nakajima asks Naoki, the president of a soy sauce company that has existed for over a century, to support the festival. However, Naoki refuses because he too has tried to run this festival years ago yet failed. That festival was also the reason Naoki's relationship with Aya ended.  Aya and Yui's awkward relationship still continues. The tangled strings connected to each soul get even more complicated. However, the strong passion to unite the town gets stronger and the strings start to unravel. As the story progresses, Aya and Yui's strings become tightly knotted.
